How are KÄÄPÄ Mushrooms' mushrooms grown?

For the mushrooms, KÄÄPÄ Mushrooms uses Finnish birch substrate. Finland has the cleanest air and cleanest water ever measured, and the clean forests ensure that the mushrooms eat the healthiest and cleanest food: the birch trees. The substrate is FSC and/or PEFC certified for its commitment to sustainable forestry. Based on farm experience, KÄÄPÄ Mushrooms controls growing conditions such as temperature, humidity, O₂ and C0₂ levels, light and added stress factors to produce mushrooms of the highest quality.

KÄÄPÄ Forest is a subdivision that promotes versatile forest use and forestry of chaga. KÄÄPÄ Forest manages the largest chaga cultivation network in the world. Because chaga grows very slowly and is over-harvested worldwide, KÄÄPÄ Mushrooms addressed this problem by starting large-scale chaga cultivation. Today, KÄÄPÄ Mushrooms grows chaga with the KÄÄPÄ Forest around Finland in the continuously growing network area, which currently covers more than 200 hectares.

By working closely with forest owners, a truly transparent growing environment for mushroom production is possible. It is important for KÄÄPÄ Mushrooms to change the scenario in which Nordic forests are cut down for use by the paper industry - instead, KÄÄPÄ Mushrooms supports mushroom cultivation in local forests.
