The Island Hemp Wear shirt has a casual, oversized fit. Traditional Hawaiian shirts are deliberately designed to be loose-fitting, allowing air to circulate freely – ideal for Hawaii’s warm climate. This also contributes to the distinctive look.

Do you normally wear size L? Then a size M will fit as well. Want the typical, loose Hawaiian oversized look? Then go for your usual size. For a slightly tighter fit, we recommend a size smaller.

The story
It was the 1990s and hemp fever was at its peak. The hemp leaf was the most used symbol of the year and top artists were naming it all in their lyrics. This is the context when “Hemp Works” was born in 1993, at the time co-founders Adam Dunn (from New York) and Douglas Mignola (from San Francisco) met in Amsterdam.

We had the same mentality and together we started the very first hemp store in Europe: ‘Hemp Works’. Neither of us kawm from the fashion industry, but we had a great concept in mind: to make a really beautiful hemp product that would also be environmentally friendly. We had to learn it quickly and bit by bit, turning our products into real Amsterdam icons.

Global Recognition
‘Hemp Works’ quickly gained global recognition as “The epicenter of the hemp universe,” Robert C. Clarke. Hemp Work’s jackets became the big star of the store. You could even see famous artists like Woody Harrelson, Redman, B-Real and Astro from UB40 wearing these jackets in the media. And even Snoop Dogg dancing in his Hemp Work’s jacket in the snow on MTV.
